Chloe Hanf- Designer

Community and commitment to experiential excellence.

Design found me in a forest commune. I had taken a year between high school and college to gain some real world experience and determine what path I should take. I like math and science but also art and writing and- how was I to choose? So, I removed myself from all I had learned and found myself in a forested community abroad. There, I lived a simple life and volunteered my time to making. We made gardens, and theatre, and meaningful experiences for underserved communities. With my newfound love of making, I returned home to make experience through architecture. Portland State University's site specific, artistically rigorous program gave me the tools to produce experientially rich work, rooted in storytelling.

My mastery of analogue methods of design and representation have prepared me for an informed and critical exploration of the digital realm as it relates to human experience, and my experience with digital fabrication and representation have given me the tools to do so. If there is one thing I hope one will take away from my body of work, it is my desire to reconcile the artistic and the scientific, the physical and the digital, the present and the future. With my experience in experiential design, retail design, visual communication, and branding, I aim to create meaningful experiences in all realms of inhabitation.
